Την Παρασκευή 21 Ιουλίου 2017 επισκέφθηκαν το Κέντρο Λαογραφίας φοιτητές και φοιτήτριες του Προγράμματος Ελληνικών Σπουδών του Πανεπιστημίου Columbia (ΗΠΑ) συνοδευόμενοι από τους καθηγητές τους Δημήτριο Αντωνίου και Σου Γιανγκ Κιμ. Οι φοιτητές ενημερώθηκαν από τον διευθ. του Κέντρου Ευάγγ. Καραμανέ για την ιστορία του, τα επιμέρους αρχεία και συλλογές του, τις εκδόσεις και τις τακτικές εργασίες του (επιτόπιες έρευνες, Αρχείο Χειρογράφων, κ.ά.). Στον χώρο του αναγνωστηρίου είχαν την ευκαιρία να παρακολουθήσουν σχετική προβολή εικόνων και να ακούσουν ηχογραφήματα. Ακολούθησε συζήτηση με μέλη του προσωπικού του Κέντρου για την θέση των λαογραφικών σπουδών στον σύγχρονο κόσμο, των σχέσεών τους με τις ευρύτερες ανθρωπολογικές και εθνολογικές σπουδές, την εθνογραφική εργασία επί του πεδίου μέσα από συγκεκριμένα παραδείγματα (ποιμενικοί πληθυσμοί, λαϊκή θρησκευτικότητα, λαϊκά δρώμενα κ.ά.).

Το φετινό θερινό εκπαιδευτικό πρόγραμμα στην Ελλάδα είναι το πρώτο που πραγματοποιεί το Πανεπιστήμιο Columbia. Από την πλευρά του Κέντρου Λαογραφίας διαπιστώθηκε με ικανοποίηση ο υψηλός βαθμός ενδιαφέροντος των φοιτητών για το αντικείμενο των σπουδών τους. Είναι ιδιαιτέρως σημαντικό το γεγονός ότι τα στοιχεία του νεότερου και σύγχρονου Ελληνικού πολιτισμού μελετώνται από φερέλπιδες νέους και νέες στο διεθνές περιβάλλον του σημαντικού αυτού Πανεπιστημίου. Συζητήθηκαν τρόποι για περαιτέρω συνεργασία για την επίτευξη των εκπαιδευτικών και ερευνητικών στόχων τους.
